Day 10: Harry, Ginny and kids (A Potter family portrait!)

Now this is just lovely. Granted that David Yates already screwed up Ginny in the movies, a photo like this still makes you miss having a Potter movie to look forward to each year. I love it, despite criticisms on the ageing make-up, because the casting people managed to find great kids to portray Harry and Ginny’s children. Will Dunn is a charmer. Arthur Bowen’s features look like he could really be Dan and Bonnie’s son. Daphne just reminds me of little Bonnie from Sorcerer’s Stone.

The epilogue better get a special feature on the DH2 DVD! Now where’s the family portrait for Ron, Hermione, Rosie and Hugo? :)

JK Rowling’s Big 7

Thank you, JK Rowling, for recognizing this core group that made the movies even memorable. The trio will never shine without their friends and Harry’s rivalry with Draco was really something for the books. Dan, Rupert, Emma. Bonnie, Matt, Evanna and Tom… we will all miss you too. Thank you for bringing to life Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, Luna and Draco. *cries*

HPDH2 preview: Weasleys, FTW!

I’m posting this because of sheer delight that Ginny actually makes it in a preview clip and that it looks like we’ll get some considerable Weasley family time in the finale for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. For those who don’t want to be spoiled, here’s a quick rave on what is shown in this 97-seconds clip from ABC Family:

Some little fangirl posts…

Why, oh why, Bonnie Wright?!? I'd say never wear black to premieres again! It's nice to dress down sometimes but please not during Harry Potter events. You deserve an outfit that will highlight your best assets. In this case, a little black dress simply won't do the trick. It is unfair though how you're always getting the short end of the stick when compared to Emma Watson. You ladies are both pretty, end of story. There shouldn't be any competition at all.
Now that we’re into films, one of the movies I'm actually looking forward to next year is Country Strong. It stars Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester, Garret Hedlund and Gwyneth Paltrow in a story about a fallen country star and a rising young singer-songwriter she takes under her wings as they try to resurrect her career. Hedlund is reason enough for me to watch this. I've adored the guy since Four Brothers and he was the only saving grace in Eragon. Pretty scruffy, but definitely a great actor.

Gossip Girl fans, on the other hand, would surely watch this for Leighton Meester. She's such a darling as Chiles Stanton, the beauty queen turned singer, whose good-hearted innocence reminds me of Carrie Underwood when she first started in American Idol.

It’s Team Canon, bitches!

Harry Potter was the first fandom that introduced me to the concept of 'shipping. Imagine pairing off kids who were even too young to start a relationship on their end. Quite weird, huh? But because it was mainly the story about an eleven-year old's journey to self actualization, JK Rowling was wise enough not to dwell too much on the romantic aspects of the story. It did not stop 'shipping wars from escalating.

Team Harmony vs Team OBHWF (One Big Happy Weasley Family) is the most prominent of all HP 'shipping wars I have encountered. Although I doubt if it would still be classified as such ("war") since the epilogue sealed those couple's fates in canon. Trust Pinoy fans (or at least those in the forum I usually visit) to twist logic into their favor. Majority of them hate Ginny because she's boring, a flirt and not a significant character in the series when deep-inside they simply can't stand the actress who plays her. Bonnie Wright is the ultimate ice queen in their eyes. Shallow, eh?

And for the life of me, why on earth are people 'shipping Daniel Radcliffe/Emma Watson IRL? DRad outside of his HP persona screams flamboyantly metro-sexual with zero appeal. Emma, I can understand. The girl is no doubt easy on the eyes. It's quite disturbing however when these people (kids?) read too much into D/E publicity photos for the movie. You are no matchmakers. Let them live their life.

/rant-over.

Good thing I'm not that invested in 'shipping stuff these days. It was a period in my life that I have happily outgrown. It was fun while it lasted. But it doesn't mean I don't believe in happily ever afters anymore. I still do.

Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Granted that I'm a known Harry/Ginny 'shipper and this movie is supposed to highlight their relationship, I find myself wondering why I still loved Goblet of Fire among all the movie adaptations. But really, what made me look forward to HBP the most was the fact that Ginny is finally given the chance to develop as a character that plays a major role in Harry's future. I shall not get into the argument of 'shipping again for it will be futile. Harry/Hermione 'shippers can gloat all they want about how much "sexual chemistry" Dan and Emma exuded on-screen. But that's it. That's all they will get. For even if Kloves is a self-avowed Hermione fanboy, the fact is that the epilogue has already been set in stone.

OBHWF on Entertainment Weekly

This was a photo-shoot that took eight years in the making! Yes, it's Daniel and Bonnie... minus the photoshop. This month's issue of Entertainment Weekly is certainly a treat for all OBHWF (One Big Happy Weasley Family) 'shippers. How lucky can we get? Yayyy, just four more days before HBP!

Bonnie Wright on Evening Standard Magazine

Little Ginny Weasley is all grown-up! I couldn't be more happy that Bonnie Wright finally gets her first cover girl stint since starring in the HP franchise. This is long overdue, people! Here's to more photoshoots for this talented young lady.

Half-Blood Prince: Ginny Weasley

Ahhh, what a beauty! Me thinks this is a shot from Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes. She's definitely turning out to be a such a charmer in this movie. More promo photos please, WB?

Fandoms in photos…

The past week had been a busy one that I barely had time to blog about my fandoms.

Not really feeling the outfit. Really now, socks and open-toed shoes? But the thing about this girl is that what looks "baduy" in our eyes manages to look trendy on her. Or at least it gets easy on the eyes after several views. One thing I've realized after years of seeing Bonnie attend such events is that she never goes with the norm. She sets her own fashion.

Meet your Korean Dao Ming Si Goo Joon Pyo and Shan Cai Geum Jan Di. He looks cute hawt! The series premieres on January 5 in Korea and more likely will hit Philippine TV around six months later.

Oh, can I just say that Fully Booked-Ayala is my new Disneyland? Gaaahhhh, I can stay there for the whole day and never get bored. I love their extensive selection of books which includes titles I've never seen in NB before.

262 days to go…

Just when you thought no updates were coming, here comes another trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. I, for one, am pleased with Ginny's presence in it. It's about time she gets some decent exposure in the films. Only after watching OotP last night did I realize she barely said a word in it! The facial expressions were spot on, but I would've appreciated more dialogue to go with it.

And I chose not to make a big deal out of the last scene because I see it from the view point of someone watching two bestfriends banter. Nothing sexual about it, people! Get over it.
